‘Driving this thing is awesome’: Company donates golf cart to man with Down syndrome, after his was stolen

Matt Gibbons’ golf cart was stolen in May. A company some 1,500 miles away heard about the crime — and knew they could help.

When Matt Gibbons looked out his window Friday morning, he could not believe his eyes. A flatbed truck loaded with a shiny gold golf cart pulled up in front of his house. “I see the cart! My own golf cart is here,” Gibbons said. At the end of May, KETV brought you the story of the man with Down syndrome whose golf cart was stolen, and with it, 40-year-old Gibbons’ independence.A golf cart company in Florida heard about the crime, and gifted Matt a brand new, street-legal golf cart. KETV Newswatch 7 was there when the golf cart arrived and even got to go for a spin with Gibbons. “Driving this thing is awesome,” said Gibbons, who uses the golf cart to get to work and explore his neighborhood on his own. “I love it!”
