A new mural has been unveiled in Concord featuring a scene from the classic video game “Donkey Kong.”With a vision, some spray paint and a lift, Manny Ramirez, Cecilia Ulibarri and Christian Ramirez, of Positive Street Art, brought the basic brick of an elevator shaft to life.Manny Ramirez and Ulibarri said that once they were pitched the idea, they were game.”We were so excited. We were ready for it,” Ulibarri said. “It’s one of the most anticipated murals we were doing all summer long.””And I’m a huge gamer, so to me, it was just natural,” Manny Ramirez said.Looking for someone who could get their building a new high score, Elm Grove Companies found Positive Street Art after a quick Google search.”We really wanted to give Concord this fun Easter egg to bring people to the Pleasant Street area,” said Kayla Frank, marketing director of Elm Grove Companies.Why a retro “Donkey Kong” mural? It was apparently the idea of the two owners of the building.”They were back here for the renovation of the project and really thought the architecture reminded them of Donkey Kong,” Frank said.The five-story project took a little over two weeks to complete.”You look at this, and you can’t believe that it took them a few weeks to do,” Frank said. “It looks like it took them months.””We want to beautify communities and bring communities together through the works that we do,” Ulibarri said.
