Delaware Animal Services, part of the state Division of Public Health’s Office of Animal Welfare, is investigating what it says is an act of animal cruelty that left a dog dead Friday in Lewes.
Animal Services said that the Lewes Police Department found a dog tied to a sledgehammer in Canary Creek near the 800 block of Pilottown Road. They described the dog as a 40-pound, black and brown male that was possibly a terrier mix.
Unidentified dog not microchipped
The dog was not microchipped, Delaware Animal Services said, and they have not been able to identify him yet.
Delaware Animal Services is asking anyone with information to call 302-255-4646 or submit information online at animalservices.delaware.gov. Tips may be made anonymously.
