DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Dinwiddie County soccer star is breaking records and redefining what it means to be a student athlete.
Emma Brown, a junior at Dinwiddie Senior High School, was ranked No. 39 in the top 100 players in the nation for soccer by Exact Sports, a national showcase organization that ranks high school athletes.
In addition to her national ranking, Brown will have the chance to play soccer in England next year with the Exact 11 Girl’s Team, alongside other girls who have been ranked by the organization.
Brown, who been playing soccer since she was 3 years old, is the only female athlete in Dinwiddie County’s history to be ranked among the top 100 in the nation.
“I’ve always grown up playing sports, but soccer is what I found most interesting,” Brown said. “I’ve always had family members that grew up with me, that played with me, and they encouraged me that I’m good at it and that I have a purpose.”
Brown said that when she graduates from high school next year, she plans to attend Virginia Military Institute. She will head overseas for her big game with Exact 11 Sports next March.
