Gov. John Carney plans to end Delaware’s Public Health Emergency order at the end of the day on May 11, his office announced Thursday.
It is the same day that President Joe Biden plans to end the federal Public Health Emergency.
Delaware has consistently been in a state of emergency since March 13, 2020, due to the pandemic. The status ensures access to emergency assistance from the federal government, and previous iterations of the Public Health Emergency order enforced safety precautions like the closing of non-essential businesses.

‘Continued progress in moving beyond COVID-19’
Because of the state’s “continued progress in moving beyond COVID-19,” Carney said he felt comfortable ending the Public Health Emergency order in May.
However, like the federal government, the administration may reverse this decision and continue to extend the state of emergency if there are any “unanticipated developments” to public health.
