The 2005 Mustang was northbound on River Road (Route 9) approaching Federal School Lane a little after 9:15 p.m. Thursday when the teen lost control of the vehicle, investigators said.
The car skidded across the road before it left the roadway and its tires struck a raised concrete curb located at the entrance to a business, police said. This caused the Mustang to roll over and go airborne into a heavily wooded area.
When the car came to rest, it caught on fire, police said.
The teen driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
