An 83-year-old man died on Monday in a two-car crash in Bridgeville, Delaware State Police said.
Troopers were called to Wesley Church Road just before 1:30 p.m. for reports of the crash. There, they found Richard Kalinevitch dead.
Based on their investigation, troopers determined Kalinevitch was driving a Ford Focus north on Wesley Church Road when he began approaching the intersection with Cannon Road, where there is a stop sign and flashing red traffic light.
As Kalinevitch drove through the intersection, he did not stop, police said. He drove into the path of a Dodge Charger that had the right-of-way.

Both Kalinevitch and the 26-year-old driver of the Dodge were wearing seatbelts. The young man was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.
As of Wednesday, 149 people have died on Delaware roadways, the most since 1988 when there were 165 people killed. That’s the most number of people killed on the road in the state’s history.
According to preliminary data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more people are dying across the country in motor vehicle accidents.
NHTSA is projecting that 42,915 people died in motor vehicle crashes last year, a 10.5% increase from the 38,824 fatalities in 2020. The national projection for 2021 is the highest number of fatalities since 2005.
