Following Monday’s storm that dumped snow across Delaware, school districts and organizations have announced closures or delays for Tuesday, Jan. 4:
Schools closings, delays
- Appoquinimink School District classes will be online Tuesday.
- Brandywine School District classes will resume as normal Tuesday.
- Colonial School District classes will not be held Tuesday, but staff will return in person on Tuesday.
- Caesar Rodney School District will be closed to students Tuesday.
- Capital School District will be closed to students. All 10-month employees will have an in-service day, and 12-month employees should report at noon as road conditions allow. Buildings and grounds staff should check with their supervisors.
- All Smyrna School District schools and offices will be closed Tuesday. Teachers and paraprofessionals will provide virtual instruction to students.
- All Indian River School District schools will be closed Tuesday. All 12-month employees should check their district email accounts for information on their work status for Tuesday.
- Cape Henlopen School District will be closed Tuesday.
- Sussex Technical High School will be closed Tuesday. Students should check Schoology for messages from their teachers.
- Laurel Schools will be closed Tuesday.
- Delmar school district will be closed Tuesday.
- Seaford School District will be closed Tuesday. Twelve-month employees should work remotely.
Government
- Sussex County government offices will be closed Tuesday. Additionally, Tuesday’s County Council meeting has been canceled. Agenda items will be rescheduled.
- On Tuesday, state of Delaware offices in Kent and Sussex counties will open at 10 a.m. Nonessential employees who live or work in Kent and Sussex counties do not report until 10 a.m. Essential employees designated for severe weather are to report as scheduled.
- Due to inclement weather, judicial branch offices in Sussex County will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Health

Beebe Healthcare will resume normal business operations on Tuesday. Anyone with a primary care, specialty, physical rehabilitation or diagnostic testing (lab, imaging, etc.) can expect to be cared for Tuesday. If any patient does not feel safe traveling, call the office to reschedule or switch to virtual if applicable. All four Beebe Healthcare Walk-In Care locations will resume normal hours Tuesday (9 a.m.) Any change in an office’s status will be shared on Beebe social media pages. Both of Beebe’s Emergency Departments remain open for emergencies. The South Coastal Emergency Department near Millville also remains open and ready to care for patients in that area.
