A four-car crash on Route 141 near New Castle on Friday afternoon left a 36-year-old man from Newark dead and another man injured, according to Delaware State Police.
The identity of the man killed has not yet been released.
State police said the 36-year-old was driving south on Route 141 near William Penn High School in a 2017 Subaru BRZ at a high speed. After passing Stockton Drive at 12:15 p.m., police said the Subaru then slid sideways across the grass median and into the northbound lanes of Route 141.
The front of the Subaru hit the back left tire of a 2016 Ford F-150 driving north, according to police, and then the front of a 2020 BMW X5 hit the passenger side of the Subaru. The Subaru was then sideswiped by the passenger side of a 2022 Hyundai Sonata in the right northbound lane.
The 47-year-old man driving the Ford and the 38-year-old man driving the Hyundai were not injured. The 60-year-old man driving the BMW was taken to the hospital with “non-life-threatening” injuries, according to police. Troopers said the 36-year-old Subaru driver was dead when they arrived.
All four drivers were wearing seatbelts. Police said they are still investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Route 141 was closed between Stockton Drive and Route 273 for three hours.
