Delaware State Police are investigating a vehicle collision south of Harrington that killed a 1-year-old baby Saturday afternoon.
At 2:44 p.m., a 2019 Ford Fiesta and 2022 Toyota Tacoma were both traveling south on South Dupont Highway, according to a Delaware State Police press release.
The Fiesta, driven by a 27-year-old from Maryland, attempted to change from the right lane into the left lane but hit the Tacoma, which was already in the left lane, police said. The back left of the Fiesta hit the right front of the Tacoma, police said.
The wreck took place just south of Raceway Boulevard.
After the vehicles made contact, police said the Fiesta driver lost control of her car. Oversteering, she drove the car off the right edge of the road, where it hit a tree and came to rest on its hood, police said.

One-year-old Andrew Smith was in a front-facing car seat in the Fiesta’s rear-passenger seat. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the Fiesta was also taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Neither the driver of the Tacoma nor her passenger was injured, police said. The road was closed for about six hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.
