The Delaware men’s soccer team made use of an insurance goal and scrambled in the final moments to preserve a 3-2 upset against defending Big Ten Conference champs Rutgers on Thursday at home.
The Blue Hens appeared to be set when Jordan Miller tipped the ball into the net with 12 minutes remaining for a 3-1 lead but Rutgers pressed and scored with under three minutes to play – but couldn’t convert any further chances as time ran out.
The victory was the first against a Power Five team for head coach Tommy McMenemy, who is entering his second season.
The win matched the Delaware women, who opened with a 1-0 win against Syracuse at home last week.
