Some people cross their fingers for luck. Millsboro’s Duane Ketterman crosses the state line.
The 43-year-old Delaware man has won the lottery in Maryland twice in the past two months, with his winnings totaling nearly $50,000.
Ketterman lives near the state line in southern Delaware and travels into Maryland frequently for his job as a powerline technician, according to a Maryland Lottery news release. He has a habit of buying lottery tickets there, and it appears his preferred game is Racetrax.
He “couldn’t believe” it when he won $18,000 playing the animated horseracing game in July, a feeling that would be compounded in August.
Earlier this month, as his family was passing through Queen Anne’s County on a trip, Ketterman played Racetrax at the Dash In at 401 Thompson’s Creek Road in Stevensville. He picked three random numbers and played them for 20 Racetrax races.
He added a “bonus multiplier,” doubling his cost to play but also multiplying his winnings by five, as he discovered when he checked his numbers a few hours later.
“When I saw this one, I was just stunned,” Ketterman told the Maryland Lottery.

He claimed his $30,785 in winnings in Baltimore. The Dash In owners will receive a bonus of $307.85 (1% of the prize) for selling the ticket.
Ketterman and his wife told the Maryland Lottery they have no immediate plans for the money.
“Something will come up, good or bad, and we’ll have this to help handle it,” he said.
