A 41-year-old man was killed as he attempted to cross Route 1 Sunday evening north of Milford, according to Delaware State Police.
The Milford-area man has not been identified by police.
This marks the 146th person killed on Delaware’s roadways, pushing the state closer to the 2006 high of 147 traffic fatalities in Delaware. The state record for traffic fatalities occurred in 1988 when 165 people were killed on Delaware roadways.

Sunday’s incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. as the man began crossing the south lanes of Route 1 near Williamsburg Drive. As he crossed the road, police said the man stepped into the path of a 2008 Toyota Corolla that was southbound on Route 1 and struck.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Toyota driver, an 18-year-old woman, and her 17-year-old male passenger were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Route 1 was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
