Police arrested a 24-year-old Georgetown man Saturday and charged him with the attack of a 38-year-old man who was beaten with a baseball bat inside Royal Farms in Georgetown on Wednesday night.
Kevin Shorter was arrested just after midnight on Saturday in the Rehoboth area, according to police. He was charged with first-degree attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $155,000 cash bond.
The Georgetown Police Department responded to the convenience store, at 20579 Dupont Blvd., just before 10 p.m., Wednesday, and found the victim had been assaulted by an unknown male. The victim sustained severe injuries and is hospitalized in critical condition, according to Delaware State Police.
The victim was a homeless man who lived in Georgetown’s Douglas Street encampment, according to Jim Martin. Martin operates the nearby Shepherd’s Office, which provides food, clothing and other assistance to the homeless.
