Delaware State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a 3-year-old boy in Rising Sun Tuesday afternoon.
The agency tweeted just after 4:30 p.m. that troopers were on the scene of the wreck, which had occurred at South State Street and Rising Sun Road about 30 minutes prior. Police said the boy was running across the street when a Chevrolet Silverado hit him and continued going.
The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
Several hours later, a little after 8 p.m., police took to Facebook to ask for help identifying the driver of the white pickup truck. The Chevrolet had distinct rims.
On Wednesday morning, state police announced they’d identified the driver of the truck, an 18-year-old man from Smyrna, and had “contacted” him. No charges have been filed, police said.
Detectives continue to investigate as of Wednesday morning.
Police ask anyone with information to contact detectives at (302) 698-8457 or by calling the Troop 3 desk line at (302) 697-4454. Tipsters can also contact Delaware Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous.
