Senior Evan Bouldin of Appoquinimink and junior Tyler August of Delaware Military Academy are the co-Players of the Year and highlight the All-State baseball team released Wednesday by the Delaware Interscholastic Baseball Coaches Association.
Bouldin went 7-1 with a 1.39 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 321/3 innings during the regular season. He is also strong at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI in Appo’s 9-2 victory over DMA in the quarterfinals of the DIAA Baseball Tournament on Tuesday.
August hit .510 with five homers, four triples, 25 RBIs and a .959 slugging percentage, and also rated among the state’s top pitchers.
Bouldin is one of three first-team All-State pitchers, along with Nick Cox of Cape Henlopen and Andrew Callaway of Delmar.
Brendan Timmons of Middletown is the first-team catcher, with August at first base, Cape Henlopen’s Austin Rhue at second and Conrad’s Tyler Pirrung at third.
There is a three-way tie for the first-team shortstop, with Salesianum’s John Dunion, St. Elizabeth’s Matthew Trout and Cape’s Josh Reinhold sharing the honors.
The first-team outfielders are Middletown’s Zak Sophy, Indian River’s Roman Keith and William Penn’s Brandon Grygo. Conrad’s Pat Blanch was voted the top designated hitter, and Tower Hill’s Marty Coyne made the first team as a utility player.
Cape Henlopen’s Ben Evick is the Coach of the Year, and Conrad’s Joe Bolinski is the Assistant Coach of the Year.
The semifinals of the DIAA Baseball Tournament will be played Thursday at Frawley Stadium, with Saint Mark’s taking on Cape Henlopen at 3 p.m. and Appoquinimink going against Conrad at 6.
The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Frawley.
