A 29-year-old person died Monday afternoon in Pike Creek after their motorcycle was struck by a car on Route 7, Delaware State Police reported.
The 71-year-old driver of the car and his passenger were not injured.
State police said that the 29-year-old was traveling south on Route 7 on a black 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle near Carousel Park. A blue 2018 Honda CRV was driving on Route 7 in the opposite direction, approaching the intersection with Old Linden Hill Road. At 2:23 p.m., police said the Honda made a U-turn into the southbound lanes directly in front of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist moved from the right lane onto the right shoulder to avoid a crash, police said, but the Honda also pulled onto the right shoulder, planning to drive into Carousel Park.
The front passenger side of the Honda struck the motorcycle, sending the motorcycle into the raised curb, according to state troopers. The motorcyclist was thrown off the Harley and killed. Their identity has not yet been released.
Police said Route 7 southbound was closed at Greenwood Drive for about three hours. The crash is still under investigation.
