State officials expect I-95 near Wilmington, which has been closed for most of Tuesday, to reopen “shortly.”
Delaware State Police have not reported if there are any injuries as a result of the crash that occurred about 6:30 a.m.
The south lanes of the interstate were closed following a crash near Concord Pike (Route 202) that caused significant damage to construction equipment in the area, a Delaware Department of Transportation spokesperson said.
“The vehicle struck a pavement milling machine and caught fire which caused significant damage to the equipment, however, there were no contractors working in that area at the time of the crash,” Charles “C.R.” McLeod said. “It was determined that the machine would need to be removed with the help of a wrecker truck along with the private vehicle.
“A new milling machine will need to be brought in but otherwise no impact to the ongoing work in that area is expected. 95 SB should be reopening shortly.”
The crash has I-95 south closed at Concord Pike. The south lanes of Concord Pike onto I-95 south are also closed.
“Roadways are expected to be closed for several hours as police units work to investigate and clear the scene,” Delaware State Police said in a Tuesday press release.
