RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A violent Saint Patrick’s Day weekend in Chesterfield County in which two people were shot in two separate incidents has some residents concerned.
The first happened at around 1 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the Falling Creek Apartments on the 2500 block of Marina Drive. The victim, who was shot while sitting in his car, was taken to a nearby hospital by friends and has injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man who stood at 5-feet-7-inches with a thin build, wearing a black hood, black hat, mask and dark pants.
The second shooting took place at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 17 on the 13600 block of Northwich Drive. 22-year-old Barry Jordan was found in a vehicle with gunshot wounds, he was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The Chesterfield County Police Department said this is the first homicide to take place in the county so far in 2024. On this day in 2023, there had already been four homicides so far in the year.
Police said there’s no way to properly gauge how or why these fatal shootings occur — nonetheless, neighbors are still worried. 8News spoke to a man living on Northwich Drive who wished to remain anonymous.
“You never expect it to be happening close by,” he said. “But when it does, it creates a tremendous amount of fear. And also, you know, what’s going on in the world just makes us numb to this at times.”
He said learning from our past could help in stopping the violence.
“Our environment kind of grows people’s attitude that this is okay,” he said. “And when you have more and more history like this, then it makes more and more people think that it’s okay.”
Anyone with information related to either of these shootings is asked to call Chesterfield Police at 804-475-1251.
