Bridge work will significantly impact traffic on East Broad Street, both directions of I-95 in downtown Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will soon begin work to replace the East Broad Street bridge over Interstate 95 in downtown Richmond.

According to VDOT, the road work project will be completed during a series of weekend closures.

From Friday, March 1 at 8 p.m. to Monday, March 4 at 6 a.m., the northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 will be reduced to one lane at mile marker 74.

There will also be closures on East Broad Street in both directions over the interstate, as well as the exit from I-95 North to East Broad Street and the exit from East Broad Street to I-95 South. Access to East Broad Street for pedestrians will remain available, according to VDOT.

According to VDOT, detours will be in place to direct drivers through the work zone. Drivers are recommended to take I-295, I-195, Route 288 Route 1, Route 301 and East Main Street to avoid any delays.

VDOT will communicate future weekend closures as the project progresses. For the latest traffic information and road conditions, call 511 or visit the department’s website.
