Bomb threat made by two juveniles causes disruption at Chesterfield elementary school

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A bomb threat made against a Chesterfield elementary school by two juveniles resulted in an investigation by police, according to the Chesterfield County Police Department.

According to police, two juveniles from another Virginia locality threatened to bomb Spring Run Elementary School during an online chat. This chat room included two Spring Run Elementary students.

The morning of Thursday, Feb. 15, police were dispatched to the school to look into the threat. According to police, this was done before school opened. The resulting investigation found the threat was not credible.

Police said the school was not evacuated.

The principal of Spring Run sent the following message to parents following the incident:

“Dear Spring Run Families, Police continue to investigate the anonymous email and threatening remark during a video chat but have determined that there is no credible threat to Spring Run Elementary.  Out of an abundance of caution, the police department brought in the K-9 unit to sweep the building and were able to do so even while students and staff were on site for early morning activities. In addition, to clarify, some after school activities to include the enrichment program were not able to be held given the lack of available staff. We had our instructional day today, and we plan to do so again tomorrow. School safety is always our top priority. Parents entrust their most precious gifts — their children — to us daily, and that is why our school and all Chesterfield County schools remain alert. We take any potential threat seriously. Chesterfield County Public Schools and the Chesterfield County Police Department have a close connection, and we are grateful for law enforcement’s thorough response. We are all partners in efforts to protect our children. Our students and staff members cannot achieve their best unless they feel secure, comfortable and supported. Please talk with your student to let them know how we work to keep them safe. If your child has specific information about a situation, they should reach out to an administrator or another trusted adult. We have systems in place to help students deal with conflict or other problems appropriately. Everyone has a role to play in school safety. We ask that everyone be involved, aware, speak up and join efforts to sustain safe learning environments. If you see something, say something. If you know something, make sure someone at a school knows it too.  Thank you for your support, which means a great deal to me and to every teacher and staff member at Spring Run Elementary. If you or your child have concerns, please let me know.”
