A body was found inside a burning car Wednesday morning at an apartment complex in Bear, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The car, a silver Nissan, was parked in the 1500 block of Gregory Drive, which is in the Rockwood apartment complex. Firefighters arrived shortly after 10 a.m. after receiving reports of the blaze.
After the fire was extinguished, first responders found a body in the four-door vehicle. Investigators with New Castle County Police and the fire marshal’s office could be seen looking into the charred car for evidence.
A county police detective could also be seen taking photos through the front passenger and driver’s side windows, both of which were open. Investigators appeared to be focusing their attention on the driver’s seat.
More than a dozen first responders swarmed the area, and a large section of the apartment complex’s parking lot was blocked off. Several residents could be seen watching the police and fire activity, but they didn’t remain outside their homes for long.

Officials did not say where in the car the body was found, nor did they have information about the age or gender of the person. As of about 11:15 a.m., a medical examiner had not yet arrived, though Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said she was on her way.
Chionchio said he would provide additional information as investigators learned more.
