Boaters beware! Low coastal water levels may hinder navigation

The National Weather Service has issued a “low water advisory” for the Delmarva coastline stretching from Fenwick Island in Delaware to Cape Charles in Virginia.

The marine weather message posted on NWS website says the advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday and covers the coastal waters 20 nautical miles out from Fenwick to the North Carolina border. The advisory also covers the Chesapeake Bay areas of Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

“Below normal water levels will result in hazardous navigating conditions,” the advisory warned.

It urged mariners to navigate shallow waters with extreme caution.

The low water advisory comes as the U.S, Coast Guard and the Maryland Department of the Environment said they were coordinating the refloating of Ever Forward, a 1,095-footcontainer vessel that grounded in the Chesapeake Bay, near Craighill Channel.
