Boat crashes, sinks on James River, two people seriously injured

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two people are seriously injured following a boat crash on the James River in Chesterfield County on Friday.

According to Henrico Fire and EMS, three men were out on the water the night of Friday, March 15. They were traveling upriver from Osborne Landing at about 8 p.m. when they hit what emergency personnel believe to be buoy 161.

The crash damaged the vessel significantly, causing it to sink. It also injured all three men, with two of them requiring treatment for significant injuries.

Units with both the Chesterfield and Henrico Fire Marine Teams were dispatched to the area. They worked to rescue the men and secure the sinking boat.

The two men with serious injuries were taken to a local hospital.

Retrieval efforts were successful, according to Henrico Fire and EMS, which said the boat should have been removed from the water by a private contractor on Saturday.
