Bear DE fire investigated as arson; cars burned, home damaged


Delaware fire officials are conducting an arson investigation after they said a fire was “deliberately started” early Saturday morning in Bear, according to Assistant State Fire Marshall, Michael G. Chionchio. 

The fire burned four vehicles and damaged a house causing an estimated loss of $200,000, Chionchio said.

Shortly before 1 a.m., officials received reports of multiple fires in the 300 block of Sun Blvd. in the Meridian Crossing development, according to Chionchio.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find burning vehicles in the driveway of two separate houses, Chionchio said. Both homes were occupied when the fires started, but no one was injured, according to officials.
