A 62-year-old Georgetown woman died Sunday evening after being hit by a car while crossing in a parking lot near Millsboro two days earlier, according to Delaware State Police.
The woman’s name has not yet been released.
State police said that the 62-year-old woman was walking past a stop sign in the parking lot of the Back Bay Shopping Center at 12:44 p.m. on Friday at John J. Williams Highway and Bay Farm Road. As she stepped in the road, a white 2013 Jeep Wrangler, which had been stopped at the stop sign, began to move forward, according to police.
The front of the car hit the 62-year-old woman at a “very low speed,” police said, knocking her onto the ground. She was taken to the hospital, where she died two days later.
Police said the driver of the Jeep, a 60-year-old woman from Millsboro, was not injured. The crash did not lead to any road closures, according to police, and it is still under investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. J. Burns at 302-703-3269 or contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
