Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings is suing Avid Telecom for its reported involvement in 27 million illegal robocalls to Delawareans and 7.5 billion calls to numbers on the Do Not Call Registry nationwide, according to the Delaware Department of Justice.
Avid Telecom is a Voice over Internet Protocol service provider, meaning it sells data, phone numbers, dialing software and expertise to help its customers make mass robocalls, the Department of Justice said. The provider also reportedly helped to route illegal robocalls nationwide.
“We often think of illegal robocalls as a nuisance, but they are also predatory and can be catastrophic when they ensnare innocent consumers in scams,” Jennings said.

The lawsuit claims that Avid Telecom was involved in spreading calls from scammers pretending to be the Social Security Administration, Amazon, DirecTV, employers, Medicare, credit card companies and auto warranty providers.
Attorneys general nationwide are filing similar lawsuits against Avid Telecom as part of the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force.
