HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Henrico Sports & Events Center kicked off its first major event today — the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The tournament began Wednesday, March 6 with the conference’s lowest-seeded teams facing off. The 14-seed University of Massachusetts beat 15-seed St. Bonaventure 54-52 and 12-seed Dayton beat 13-seed La Salle 66-49.
The University of Richmond Spiders and Virginia Commonwealth University Rams are the No. 1 and No. 3 seed, respectively, meaning they will not play their first games of the tournament until Friday, March 8.
Opened in December of last year, the new Henrico Sports & Entertainment Center features a 4,500-seat arena and space for up to 12 basketball courts simultaneously.
