At least 2 men, one girl shot in US Capital near universities, police on scene


WASHINGTON, D.C.. (WRIC) — At least three people were shot in Northwest D.C. Friday afternoon. Police confirmed the victims included two adult males and one juvenile female.

According to a message sent out by the DC Police Department’s Twitter account, the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 4100 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW — the address of The Edmund Burke School– and the 2900 block of Van Ness Street, NW –the address of Howard University School of Law– around 4 p.m. Friday for the report of at least two shooting victims, which was later increased to three victims.

Police are at the scene investigating what they are calling an “active threat,” and are urging residents in Cleveland Park and Van Ness are to shelter in place.

The University of the District of Columbia sent out a shelter-in-place emergency alert just after 4 p.m.

The Van Ness campus is on lockdown. Active shooting incident near student housing located on Van Ness Street/Connecticut Avenue NW. The suspect remains on the loose. Law enforcement is on the scene. Take shelter and stay in place until further notice.

Two locations were identified in connection to the shooting

The Howard University Department of Public Safety tweeted around 4:30 p.m., saying that the Metropolitan Police Department “initiated a lockdown order for West Campus as officials investigate reports of an active threat in the area.”

The two locations that police identified in the tweets are addresses for The Edmund Burke School, and Howard University School of Law, just minutes from the University of the District of Columbia campus.
