Northwest Arkansas company to build vehicles for NASA’s Artemis program

The next time NASA sends Americans to the moon, the astronauts will start their journey in vehicles made by a Northwest Arkansas company.NASA awarded Canoo a contract to build the vehicles bringing crews to the Artemis program’s launch site. Canoo’s workers will build the vehicle to carry astronauts fully dressed in spacesuits. It is building a new central office in Bentonville, and it will also build facilities in Fayetteville and Pryor, Oklahoma.The Artemis program is an effort to bring humans to the moon’s south pole. NASA plans to launch Artemis 1 this year, which won’t have a human crew. According to Space.com, it plans to land astronauts on the moon in Artemis 3 in 2025 or 2026.Humans have not set foot on the moon since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.NASA is collecting names to be put on a flash drive and sent into space on the Artemis 1 mission.NASA plans to use the Artemis program to prepare for an eventual human landing on Mars.
