Alexa users in the United States woke up on Sunday morning to a widespread outage of the usually dependable voice assistant. As per outage-tracking website Downdetector.com, Amazon.com’s voice assistant Alexa was down for thousands of users in the United States.
User comments on the outage tracking website claim that the outage is global. However, Amazon is yet to issue a statement on the outage or its scale.
Reuters reports that more than 9,000 users have flagged issues with Alexa, and some have also reported trouble accessing Amazon’s mobile application.
The peak of the disruption saw more than 16,000 users reporting problems with Alexa, according to Downdetector data. Eventually, the numbers later dropped down to 700.
Alexa users have flooded Twitter with posts about the intelligent personal assistant’s outage, with many using the hashtag #AlexaDown.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) also experienced an issue. Users were reportedly unable to complete the signup process and were shown error messages regarding the billing console. This console is used to manage payments and payment methods for AWS accounts.
Hundreds of users had reported problems accessing AWS, according to Downdetector.com.
Later, on Sunday, AWS announced that the issue had been resolved and customers were now able to access and complete the account signup process.
“The Signup page has recovered and customers are now able to access and complete account signup,” AWS said in its status.
