A 19-year-old man who was shot dead in Wilmington on Sunday night has been identified by Wilmington police as Marell Lowe.
Officers were called to the 2300 block of N. Monroe St. at 9:44 p.m. for reports of the shooting. There, they found Lowe badly hurt.
Emergency communications indicate he was shot in the head.
Marell was taken to the hospital, where he died.
“It’s some crazy [stuff],” an area resident told Delaware Online/The News Journal on Monday. “It was just crazy.”
Another area resident said the block is usually quiet. While that block has not seen a shooting in recent memory, people have been shot nearby.
But even that has been a few years ago. There was the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Parrish Johnson on Halloween 2006. The last shooting near this block occurred in May 2018 when a 26-year-old man was shot at 24th and North Monroe streets.
Lowe’s killing comes a week after a 20-year-old woman was fatally shot a half-mile away, in the city’s Brandywine Village neighborhood.

Darnashia Green, who neighbors said went by “Nae Nae,” was shot just before 10 p.m. near North Tatnall and West 25th streets. Neighbors told Delaware Online/The News Journal they were saddened by her death, calling her “really nice” and saying she worked hard and largely kept to herself.
Lowe’s shooting death brings the number of people shot in Wilmington this year to 73 — 11 of them fatally. Wilmington’s shootings are considerably down from 2021, which at the same time last year, there had been 103 people shot, 24 fatally.
