Winter storm will bring mostly rain to Delaware with brief snow Sunday

Delaware will only experience a short window of snow Sunday before the precipitation transitions into a “wintry mix” and into rain, sparing the state from the brunt of the winter storm set to impact central, southern and eastern parts of the country. 

New Castle and Kent counties can expect snow to begin at around 4 p.m. with up to an inch of total accumulation expected, according to the National Weather Service. Similarly, Sussex County will experience a wintry mix before quickly transitioning to rain.

By 9 p.m. Sunday, the precipitation across the entire state will have transitioned into rain, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Amanda Lee. 

Northern Delaware is under a winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday with winds blowing at speeds as high as 35 mph. Temperatures will remain in the high 20s to low 30s Sunday night before rising throughout the day Monday.
