No one was home when a Rehoboth Beach townhouse was engulfed by fire Wednesday, but firefighters were able to save the family dog.
After several 911 calls reported heavy fire, the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company responded to Catalina Circle, in the Sawgrass community off Old Landing Road, at about 8 p.m.
Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the second and third floors. Neighboring residents were evacuated, but firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to other units, according to Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company spokesman Kent Swarts. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes.
There were no injuries, Swarts said.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating.
