Fire destroyed a home on Fir Drive Extended, north of Rehoboth Beach, early Monday morning.
Firefighters responded just before 2 a.m. July 11 to find heavy fire throughout the house, according to Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company spokesman Kent Swarts. Rehoboth and Lewes firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 30 minutes and remained on scene for two more hours to ensure full extinguishment and cleanup.
The home was unoccupied, but a Rehoboth Beach firefighter was hospitalized with possible heat exhaustion, Swarts said.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating.
