The Memorial Day weekend will not only kick off the 2022 tourist season, it will also signal that several months of high-profile music events are on the way. Tickets for several of these are going on sale this week.
In Selbyville, patrons of the seasonal Freeman Arts Pavilion may have thought the outdoor concert venue had solidified this year’s schedule, which is already its biggest yet. Well, they were wrong. Tickets were set to go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 25 .for a pair of late additions.
Country star Brett Young will play hits such as “Godsend” and “Lady” at Freeman on Friday, Sept. 9. Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee John Fogerty performs Saturday, Sept. 10, and tickets are sure to move quickly.
In addition to solo songs such as “Centerfield,” the singer-guitarist peppers his shows with lots of material from his legendary catalog with Creedence Clearwater Revival.
In Ocean City, this week saw the long-awaited unveiling of the lineup for the inaugural Oceans Calling rock music festival, which will be held at the Inlet Friday, Sept. 30 through Sunday, Oct. 2. (Tickets were set to go on sale at noon, Wednesday, May 25.)
With its 30-act roster of national talent, Oceans Calling is set to make OC music history, with thousands of fans expected to roll into town.
Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds will play an acoustic duo set to close out the Friday festivities, following the Dirty Heads, O.A.R., and more. Saturday is headlined by The Lumineers, Logic and Cage the Elephant. Sunday will be headlined by Alanis Morrisette, Cyndi Lauper and Sublime with Rome.
Back in coastal Sussex County, the Milton Theatre has a triple shot of tribute acts scheduled for the coming holiday weekend.
A “low ticket alert” has been issued for The Rock Orchestra’s Genesis tribute, which is set for 7 p.m. Friday, May 27 ($28). The group will play a pair of Genesis albums top to bottom: 1980’s “Duke” and 1981’s “Abacab.”
Boat House Row will return to the Milton Theatre to play yacht-rock songs during a matinee show at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 28 ($30), followed by an 8 p.m. set that same evening (also $30). Expect mellow tunes by the likes of Christopher Cross, Toto, Michael McDonald and more.
Classic-rock titan KISS is in the midst of its farewell tour, and so is the makeup-clad Delmarva tribute act Rock Bottom. The local quartet says its 2022 shows will be its last, and its Sunday, May 29, Milton Theatre appearance is sold out.
Fans will have another chance to see the band, as tickets have gone on sale ($20) for a Friday, Sept. 16, show at the Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach.
In the more immediate future at the Bottle & Cork, Canadian rockers, The Glorious Sons, will perform Wednesday, June 1 ($25). Texas country foursome the Eli Young Band will take the stage Thursday, June 2($30). Both shows begin at 8 p.m.
