Joel Embiid underwent surgery Monday to repair his sprained right thumb, according to the 76ers.
Embiid, who in 2021-22 became the first center to lead the league in scoring since Shaquille O’Neal in 1999-2000, also had another procedure to repair an injury to his left index finger.
Embiid, the runner-up in the NBA MVP balloting for the second straight season, is expected to be ready for training camp in mid-September.
Embiid missed the first two games of the Sixers’ second-round playoff loss to the Heat due to a fractured face and concussion he suffered when he took an elbow from the Raptors’ Pascal Siakam late in the Sixers’ clinching opening-round game. He doesn’t need surgery on the facial fracture.
The thumb injury occurred in Game 3 against Toronto and was initially deemed torn ligaments.
