Hospital: Child critically injured in Wells shooting, two men also hurt



A child was critically injured in a shooting Saturday that also left two men hurt. According to York Hospital, at 4:24 p.m. two men and a young child arrived at York Hospital in Wells with gunshot wounds. According to a hospital spokesperson, the two men had non-life-threatening injuries and were transferred to other area hospitals.”The young child presented in critical/extremis condition. All appropriate treatment and resuscitation efforts were made by the York Hospital in Wells Care team led by an ED physician, and then the child was transferred via LifeFlight of Maine to Maine Medical Center in Portland,” a release from York Hospital stated. A spokesperson said York Hospital in Wells was closed during the incident and will re-open at 8 a.m. Sunday.Wells police stated in a release earlier Saturday afternoon the alleged shooter is being detained at the Wells Police Department.Wells Police said the shooting involved a family and occurred at Crediford Road. “As of now, the scene is safe, those injured have been transported to area hospitals,” the release from police stated. Wells police Capt. Gerald Congdon said the alleged shooter is related to the victims. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said the Maine State Police major crimes unit is assisting Wells Police. Moss said because they are not the primary agency, state police are unable to share further details.
