Delawarean Johnny Weir will join five others Saturday night in being inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Renaissance Nashville hotel downtown.
So, Weir said in an email interview, Nashville “will be a special place in my heart for the rest of my life.”
Yes, Weir said, he’s a fan of hot chicken and fried pickles and tries to have them every time in Nashville. But Weir said he loves the warmth of the crowds in the city even more.
“The South has wonderful audiences for skating and that will bring a lot of excitement to the competition and hopefully inspire some local kids to take up the sport!” he wrote.

Weir will be inducted as part of the 2021 class, which also includes Sandy Lamb and Gale Tanger. The 2022 class, also being inducted Saturday night, is made up of Tiffany Chin, Vicki Korn and Lucy Joyce Brennan.
