A 55-year-old woman from Harrington was killed late Wednesday night while walking on South Dupont Highway near Peach Basket Road in Felton, according to Delaware State Police.
State police said that the woman was struck by a 17-year-old driver from Harrington who was heading southbound in the left lane of South Dupont Highway at around 11:12 p.m. The 55-year-old woman was in the middle of the lane just north of Peach Basket Road, police said, and was hit by the front bumper of the 17-year-old’s car.
The pedestrian – whom police said was wearing dark clothes and not carrying any light – was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not injured, according to police.

The area of South Dupont Highway southbound near Peach Basket Road was closed for three hours, police said, and Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is still investigating.
