Two people were hit by a CSX freight train after exiting their car on the tracks near the University of Delaware early Saturday morning, according to the Newark Police Department. They were both taken to Christiana Hospital with “serious and life-threatening injuries,” police said.
Police said the car was traveling southbound on New London Road – the wrong direction on the one-way street – prior to the accident, police said. The car then turned right onto the railroad tracks near West Main Street and got stuck. Everyone left the car and, “almost immediately,” a CSX train heading east hit the car, according to police.
