HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Several elected officials, including Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to mark the official opening of a new Amazon Fulfillment Center in Henrico County.
The new facility, which spans 2.7 million square feet, is located in central Henrico near the intersection of Azalea Avenue and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike, just north of the Richmond Raceway.
“With this new state-of-the-art facility, Amazon is investing in the future of Henrico County and the greater Richmond area,” said State Senator and Henrico native Lamont Bagby. “I grew up not far from where this site now stands and I’m thrilled to see Amazon bring over one thousand good jobs with strong benefits to our community.”
The facility uses robotics in the process of packaging orders, but still employs around 1,000 people.
“The grand opening of Amazon’s new fulfillment center in Virginia is a testament to the Commonwealth’s exceptional infrastructure, competitive business costs, and long-term commitment to talent development and workforce training,” said Youngkin. “Amazon’s cutting-edge fulfillment centers generate major capital investment, thousands of jobs and strengthen Virginia’s position as a logistics industry leader on the East Coast.
