RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Calling all space lovers! Spend April 8 marveling at the solar eclipse with fellow astronomy theme at the Science Museum of Virginia.
On the afternoon of Monday, April 8, a solar eclipse will pass over the United States, with the path of totality stretching from Texas to Maine. Virginians will be able to see the sun almost entirely covered by the moon, with slight differences in coverage depending on a person’s exact location in the state.
The Science Museum of Virginia, located at 2500 West Broad Street, will be holding this viewing party from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the sun expected to be 85% covered in Richmond around 3:19 p.m. that day.
Attendees can bring their own glasses or purchase verified eclipse-viewing glasses from the museum’s gift shop. There will also be telescopes with solar filters available, provided by the Richmond Astronomical Society.
Additionally, there will be interactive activities suiting the celestial theme — attendees can make sun prints and pinhole cameras. There will also be a special craft activity, with supplies provided by the Children’s Museum of Richmond.
This event, weather permitting, will be held outside in the museum’s greenspace, “The Green,” and all activities there will be free of cost. Those who wish to explore the museum itself will need to pay admission, however.
