RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Three baby goats from Hanover County will be visiting Maymont’s Farm through the spring.
The three goat kids — named Bunny, Berry and Birdy — will be on view daily at Maymont from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during March and April as they visit from their home on a farm in Hanover County.
According to Maymont, the kids are a Tennessee domestic goat breed that includes coats of many different color variations. Bunny and Berry are females and have a light tan color, whereas Birdy is a male with a white coat.
According to Maymont, the kids were born this winter, are about three to four months old and are fully weaned.
They will pal around with Maymont’s current goat herd, which includes three different breeds, Nigerian dwarf, pygmy and hybrid goats.
According to Maymont, having baby goats on the farm helps their educators teach about animal life cycles.
“Baby animals help Maymont’s environmental educators teach visitors about the seasonal nature of animal life cycles,” said Krista Weatherford, Director of Programming and Community Engagement. “Seeing very young animals along with mature animals gives a wider understanding of life on a farm.”
The baby goat trio will be on view during Maymont’s Dominion Energy Family Easter event on Saturday, March 30, which is expanding to include activities at the Farm and the Robins Nature Center, in addition to the Carriage House Lawn.
The goat kids will also be on view during Spring Break Week from April 1 through 5.
