NSU Women’s loses by nearly 30 points in 79-50 game against Stanford Cardinal

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Ca. (WRIC) — The Norfolk State University (NSU) Spartans Women’s Basketball Team lost to the No. 2 seeded Stanford Cardinal by nearly 30 points Friday night with a 79-50 final score.

The Spartans stepped onto the court the night of Friday, March 22, having just won their second-consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship and with an impressive track record. However, Stanford Cardinal brought similarly high rankings, with both teams considered top Division I teams.

While the game began with both teams scoring similarly in the first quarter, the divide quickly grew throughout the following three. The largest lead Stanford held over the Spartans was a significant 33 points, according to ESPN.

Stanford can likely credit their victory to a substantial difference in the three-pointer percentage: Stanford’s 45% blew the Spartan’s 8.3% out of the water, according to ESPN.

Stanford Cardinal will now face off against the Iowa State Cyclones in the next round, following the Cyclones’ 86-93 win against the Maryland Terrapins.
