Mobile grocery store providing free produce to Petersburg residents officially opens

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Several elected officials, including Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a mobile grocery store which will provide free produce to Petersburg residents.

Youngkin, as well as Petersburg Mayor Sam Parham, Virginia Senator Lashrecse Aird and Delegate Kim Taylor, cut the ribbon on the Goodr mobile grocery store on Tuesday, March 19. The mobile store will provide staples like milk, eggs and produce to residents in need for free.

“When that change happens we see hope of a community’s future being better,” said Youngkin at the event. “One in five Virginians suffers from food insecurity. We should collectively work to eradicate this, and the work of Goodr is important to celebrate.”

The Goodr Mobile Grocery Store is the result of a partnership between Amazon, Anthem, Bon Secours and Comcast. More information about Goodr’s effort to address food insecurity can be found on their website.
