RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Scheduled bridge work on East Broad Street over Interstate 95 in Richmond is causing miles of backups, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
On Saturday, March 16 at 1:45 p.m., the department reported that traffic backups near East Broad Street over I-95 is causing 4.5 mile backups.
The bridge work began at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 15, and is scheduled to end at 6 a.m. on Monday, March 18.
Both the northbound and southbound travel lanes of I-95 in the area of the bridge, near mile marker 74, will be reduced to one lane during scheduled work.
According to VDOT, pedestrians will still be able to access Broad Street. Drivers are recommended to use I-295, I-195, Route 288 and Route 1/301.
In addition, drivers can expect the following closures in the nearby area:
- Exit 74B, I-95 South to Franklin Street
- Westbound ramp from Broad Street onto I-95
- Ramp from Broad Street onto I-95 South
