Henrico getting funding to reconnect communities divided by interstates

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County is one of four localities in Virginia getting funding from the Biden Administration to reconnect communities divided by transportation infrastructure such as interstates.

According to a report of the Department of Transportation, Henrico is getting $6.3 million for improvements on South Laburnum Avenue over Interstate 64 in the eastern part of the county. Chesterfield County’s $1 million application was one of 550 that were not chosen.

The White House estimates at least a million people and businesses, primarily in Black and low-income communities, have been displaced by interstate and highway projects across the country.
