JMU Men’s Basketball team wins Sun Belt Championship, Women’s team comes up short



PENSACOLA, Fla. (WRIC) — James Madison University’s Men’s Basketball team earned its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 11 years with a definitive victory in the Sun Belt Conference Championship, while the Women’s Basketball team lost in their championship game by just three points.

With a 91-71 win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves, the Dukes advance to its sixth NCAA Tournament, its first since 2013. Xavier Brown led the team in scoring with 21 points in 34 minutes on the court.

JMU’s Women’s Basketball team came up just short against the Marshall Thundering Herd, losing the game by just one-three pointer in overtime. Hevynne Bristow led the team in scoring with 21 points, she also had 12 rebounds and three blocks in 29 minutes on the court.

JMU’s Men’s Basketball team will find out who they will face in the first round of the tournament at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.
