RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police troopers responded to a medical emergency on Interstate 95 in Richmond Southside Friday afternoon, which closed lanes in both directions and caused significant backups across the city.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the incident took place at mile marker 73.4, just south of the Maury Street interchange. The northbound and southbound left lanes were closed but have since reopened, according to Virginia State Police.
As of 5:20 p.m., southbound traffic on I-95 was backed up nearly to Arthur Ashe Boulevard, northbound traffic on I-95 was backed up to about halfway between Maury Street and Walmsley Boulevard and westbound traffic on I-64 was backed up nearly to Mechanicsville Turnpike.
